A man I will never meet blessed me
today! Because of the way he lived his life and the way he touched
those around him, my day was happier when I learned of him. Let me
explain.
The father of one of the members of our Bible Study Class had died and I called the florist to order some flowers for the service that would be held in another city. When I told Frank, the person to whom I was speaking, that I wanted the flowers for the service that was to be held the next day, he immediately said, "you are calling about the service for Mr. S. R. Greenwood!" I replied that I indeed was calling about Mr. Greenwood. He even corrected me when I incorrectly referred to Mr. Greenwood's initials. It was then that my day immediately got better. Frank told me that, "I knew Mr. Greenwood very well. I went to the same church as he did. I can still see him sitting on the right side of the church, up front, on the third pew. He was the president of his bank and cared about people. Mr. Greenwood came to my high school class as we were about to graduate and took some time to talk with us about how to fill out a check register and how important it was to make sure we did that correctly. I will never forget him doing that for us. He was faithful in church, but he also provided a helpful service to many people in our town." I told Frank that I wanted a plant from our Bible Study Class so that Mr. Greenwood's daughter could place it in one of her flowerbeds. My wife and I still have an ivy that was presented at the memorial service my wife's father and it is located right by our front door. It means so very much to us and I wanted that for Mr. Greenwood's daughter. Then Frank told me what he envisioned and it sounded perfect. Frank created an arrangements of two green plants and one flowering plant and placed them in a large basket. The reports I received indicated the token of respect and love we offered to Mr. Greenwood's family was exactly as we wanted it to be. I thought as I placed the telephone receiver back on the cradle how powerful the force of a good life really is. It spans time and space and has the power to change one's day. Mr. Greenwood had, even after leaving this life, reached out and touched me as he obviously had done to so many others and made my life better by learning about him. That he lived several hundreds of miles from where I live meant nothing. What mattered was the way he lived his life. I could not help wondering how many other people had the mixed emotions of feeling the ache of that hole in your heart that occurs when a special person leaves this earth, but also had that simultaneous deep joyous feeling that also occurs because you know you are a witness to one who constantly touched the lives of others and made them better! Mr. S. R. Greenwood certainly did that. I can state that because I have that in the testimony of an eye witness. I have a hunch I could get scores of other witnesses too!

I will never meet Mr. S. R. Greenwood
during my lifetime on this earth, but I have the promise of one day
meeting him in heaven because of a common faith in Jesus
Christ. Christians, like Mr. Goodman, can share the words of the Rusty
Goodman song with their loved ones and friends that says in part,
"Look for me, for I will be there, too. I realize when you
arrive there'll be so much to view. After you've been there ten thousand
years, a million, maybe two, look for me, for I will be there
too."
For thousands of years people have professed the same faith that Mr. Greenwood embraced! For thousands of years they and those to whom they reached out were the better for it. For those thousands of years the One we know as Jesus Christ has been transforming lives and offering hope to humankind in spite of what detractors might say! Because of Jesus Christ, I can look forward to a visit with Mr. Greenwood. What a great thought! John Gallemore
